How to Watch IPTV on Roku: 3 Methods

Roku does not let you install apps from outside its Channel Store, so IPTV on Roku works in one of three ways: a player available in the Roku Channel Store, AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad to a compatible Roku, or screen mirroring from an Android phone or Windows PC. Check your Roku model and the sending device before relying on casting.

Why Roku is different

Roku does not run Android APKs. Check its Streaming Store for compatible players, then read the app description for supported playlist formats. Store availability and app features can change.

Screen mirroring from Android/WindowsFairMediumOccasional use

Method 1: Use a player from the Roku Channel Store

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote and scroll to Streaming Channels (or Search on newer Roku OS versions).
  2. Search for M3U or IPTV player.
  3. Read the description: look for support for M3U playlist URLs.
  4. Select Add channel, then open it and paste your M3U URL. Some players let you enter it from your phone's browser, which is much easier than typing with the remote.

Availability changes often. If you cannot find a working player, use Method 2 or 3.

Method 2: AirPlay from iPhone or iPad

Many Roku 4K devices and Roku TVs support Apple AirPlay. Check under Settings > Apple AirPlay and HomeKit.

  1. Set up IPTV on your iPhone or iPad using our iPhone guide.
  2. Make sure the phone and Roku are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Start a channel, tap the AirPlay icon in the player, and choose your Roku.
  4. Test playback before locking the phone. Background playback depends on the player and stream.

Method 3: Screen mirroring from Android or Windows

  1. On the Roku, go to Settings > System > Screen mirroring and set it to Prompt.
  2. On a supported Android phone, use its screen-mirroring feature, such as Samsung Smart View. Not every Cast button uses the protocol Roku accepts; Google Pixel phones are an example of a compatibility limitation. On a compatible Windows PC, press Windows + K.
  3. Choose your Roku and accept the prompt on the TV.
  4. Open your IPTV app on the phone or PC and play a channel in full screen.

Mirroring sends your whole screen, so quality is lower and notifications will appear on the TV. It is fine for occasional viewing.

Using a separate streaming device

If you plan to watch IPTV every day, plug an Android TV or Fire TV stick into a spare HDMI port on the same TV. You keep Roku for your other apps and get full IPTV players with a proper guide. Follow our Firestick guide or Android TV guide.

Restart a Roku without erasing it

For a playback problem, use a system restart rather than an undocumented remote-button sequence. Roku’s playback troubleshooting instructions describe the supported restart route.

  1. Open Settings from the Roku home screen.
  2. Choose System, then Power if that submenu is present.
  3. Select System restart and confirm Restart.
  4. Open the affected app again and test the same stream.

A system restart is not a factory reset. If the problem remains, compare another app and use the buffering checks before reinstalling anything. Keep your sign-in details available if you later remove an app.

Try the viewing method before you subscribe

Test the trial using the method you intend to keep: a compatible Roku player, AirPlay or screen mirroring. Check the remote controls and what happens when you use your phone for something else before choosing a paid plan.

If you need setup help, include the Roku model and the device you are casting from. That tells support which compatibility checks apply.

Frequently asked questions

Does Roku support IPTV?

Not natively in the way Android does. You can use a Channel Store player when one is available, AirPlay, or screen mirroring.

Why was my IPTV app removed from Roku?

Roku periodically removes third-party players from its store. Check the developer notice and your device compatibility before choosing a replacement app or casting method.

How do I clear the cache on my Roku?

Use Settings > System > Power > System restart, skipping Power when it is not listed. Do not use Factory reset for a routine restart.
